Second blog day, second post. As I said, lot’s of things going on, interesting times!
Just received some good news. A film of mine is nominated for the Bitfilm 2008 festival award.
I “just” started making machinima and didn’d make a lot until now. The nominated film is a music video for the german electro band “Digitalism” and their song “Idealistic”. And it’s my first machinima ever. So the nomintation is already a great honour, the Bitfilm festival is some major event for digital film and to be part of the top notch gang with the first film is not bad at all…
The funny thing about it is that it was a practice project in the first place. I’m not new to film making, or computer games or 3D animation, but was completely new to machinima. I made a first atempt earlier to utilize “The movies” game but found it way to limiting. When I joined Second Life I realized right away that this is the tool of trade.
As usual when I try out new technologies or methods I try to find a practice project that makes some sense and where I can create something that is usefull in some way. So, by browsing the web for contests I found the music video competition over at qoob.tv
Qoob is an interesting site, owned and run by MTV italy and you find very cool artists there. Anyway, when I read about the music video competition for “Idealistic” I new, this would be my first machinima project. The band set a few, let’s say… corner stones, elements that were important to them. A) robots, b) break dance, c) geodesic domes.
Well, the video that finally won the competition didn’t have any of those elements, but a very pretty girl in underwear. What can I say – sex sells… But now I have this break dancing robot, building a geodesic dome and a deep space love story with some happy end, my first machinima film and a nomitantion for the Bitfilm award. Fair deal. And anyway – Digitalism makes some really cool music. Check them out, their live performances must be great.
But enough boring talk, here is the film
